You wearable devices should be protagonists in the physical activity market in 2023. This is what the most recent edition of a annual survey by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)which heard the opinion of 4,500 professionals in the field around the world.
Already mentioned in previous years, these innovations reached the top of the ranking due to their commitment to clothing, glasses and other items capable of monitoring heart rate, physical activity time and sleep quality, among other functions. That includes smart watchesas most of them unite these tools.
In the recent past, there have been doubts about the actual accuracy of these devices, say the researchers in the report. But this limitation has been minimized with the advancement of these technologies.
There are products on the market capable of more accurately measuring the blood pressure, oxygen saturation, body temperature and respiratory. Some versions even make a kind of electrocardiogram (although they do not dispense with the traditional exam).

Among the top 10 trends (see the ranking below), the strength training with free weightswhich occupy the second position.
They have risen a few places since the beginning of the pandemic, when forced isolation made many people train at home and seek help from simple tools, such as dumbbells and kettlebells.
The same logic of the pandemic helps to explain the third most voted trend: the exercises done with your own body weight. The style proves that the lack of equipment is no impediment to keeping up with your workouts. Squats, push-ups and jumping jacks are some examples.
“These exercises can be done in a small space. Workouts can be very effective and produce great results,” says Samantha Clayton, Global Vice President of Sports Performance and Fitness at Herbalife Nutrition. She explains that using your own body weight helps improve muscle tone, flexibility and stability.
Among the practices that fall into this category, there are different levels of difficulty. “A push-up can be done standing against a wall, but you can do it on the floor to increase the difficulty”, exemplifies Samantha.
To make the push-up even more challenging, you can suspend your feet on a bench. The ideal is always to seek help from physical education professionals.
